Send to a friend | Printable Version We are living times of economical crisis, with its epicenter in rich, and not so rich, countries of Europe. We can read it in newspapers every day. One of the most outstanding aspects of this phenomenon is its globalization. Globalization is a term used to describe the ongoing process by which every field of human's activities has become integrated. An important infrastructure that paved globalization was the appearance and rapid spread of &#&information technology&#&. Most of people living in developed cities all around the world have now the possibility of being whole-world-integrated through a global network of communication, transportation and trade. In recent years the emergence of computer networks, &#&information technology&#&, and friendly software, permitted increasing numbers of people to be connected. It happened with overwhelming rapidity and it continues to grow. As stated before, this phenomenon has invaded every field of our life, and it has been of the most important influence in the medical field. As in other fields of education, medical education is gradually becoming a subject of globalization and &#&information technology&#& are playing a central role in it. During the last decade authorities in most &#&medical schools&#& all over the world have realized they needed to provide extensive computer networks for their students. &#&Information technology&#& has become a central component of the learning and teaching process of &#&medical schools&#& and its teaching environment. It has changed not only the delivery of health care; it also has been of great help in the medical research, as well as in the undergraduate, graduate, and &#&continuing education&#& of health professionals. The World Wide Web, compared with other mass media, gives undeniable and important advantages to its users. By this media students and medical professionals have access to a large amount of information that was previously known only to individual specialists. This generally free and at-a-hand possibility enhances the access to knowledge. In addition to this Internet is flexible, permitting the use of images or video; and allowing the linkage to Web sites on a specific subject which is of relevant importance to improve the possibility of being educated living anywhere in the world, at the only distance of a finger click. This is our current reality and it is a hoping one. No matter in which stage of education a &#&medical school's&#& student is, he needs to be aware and become a permanent part of this process. |
