Once ago, long ago, my father, my 4 years old son, and me, had a dramatic car accident. Both, my son's and my health were severely damaged. My beloved father died. It happened far away, near a Patagonian town in South Argentine called "Sierra Grande".

Due to my own experience I've learned how our mind greatly protects us is such difficult situations. In first point I cannot remember anything about what happened that afternoon, and second, I cannot remember anything but good things happening the following days after the accident. Faded memories come to me now and then of awaking in a hospital room, with my son close to me in another bed, or beds surrounded by strangers with kind faces taking care of us, and me, myself not remembering who I was. Pablo, my son gave them all our identifications.

I met extraordinary wonderful people those days. Ungratefully I cannot remember all their names, but I still have vivid in my mind the image of the smiling sweet face of Lucia who was one of the nurses. Lucia helped us (my son and me) to smile again.

So, I intimately know how a nurse can make a difference in a patient's life.

There is a bestseller called Intensive Care; The Story of a Nurse, where I found the following words:

"That intimate stranger at your bedside is not only your nurse, she is your sister, your mother, your confessor, and your healer. It is not the medicine or the treatment that cures your ills; it is her caring that heals."

I totally agree.

In addition to natural virtues, the profession requires very hard-working aptitudes, good nerves, dedicated and excellent attention to details. Much of these abilities can be learnt at a good &#&nursing school&#& which is the most important decision to take if you love this profession.

Nowadays nursing has evolved into a highly skilled career, that needs the best education, and it offers very high job stability, and good salaries, which are very much increased for the more specialized nurses.

So, if you've got an interest in caring for people, you love helping others, and you feel you can make a difference in their lives, you'll find a role that suits you in nursing. The only thing to do is to find the proper &#&nursing school&#& for you. Fortunately there are many universities to look for.

If you have taken the decision of following a nursing career, let me tell you thank you and congratulations, it will be grate for you, and most important it also will be grate for others.
